Top Awards for Small Gully at MIWC

We’re excited to announce that Small Gully Wines was bestowed ‘Barossa Shiraz Winery of the Year’ at the 2015 Melbourne International Wine Competition (MIWC).

And, our ‘The Pilgrim’ Shiraz won a coveted Double Gold in the Shiraz Australia Barossa $25 and Higher category.

Held in June, the event saw trade representatives from some of Australia’s top retail stores, restaurant owners, sommeliers and distributors blindly judge local wines from around the country.

Just simply Magic!

Our flagship Black Magic Shiraz has again made headlines, recently scoring 95 points at Wine Showcase Magazine’s new release tastings.

Judged by the magazine’s independent panel of regulars and guests under blind tasting conditions, the 2010 vintage featured along with our 2012 Mr Black’s Concoction Shiraz Viognier (93 pts), 2012 The Formula Robert’s Shiraz (93 pts) and 2011 Mr Black’s Concoction GSM (91 pts).

Wine Showcase Magazine’s scoring description:
90-100 is equivalent to an A and is given only for an outstanding or special effort. Wines in this category are the very best produced of their type. There is a big difference between a 90 and 99, but both are top marks.

By their comparison, 93-100 points would be described as an extraordinary wine and an equivalent to 18.5-20 (20 Point Show System) or Gold (Wine Show Medal Rating). Subsequently, wine awarded 90-92 points would be considered outstanding, 18-18.4 (20 Point Show System) or High Silver (Wine Show Medal Rating).

Not a bad effort overall, wouldn’t you say!
